Who is this teacher who took the papers out of the student’s hands and shut it down? And what school is this?Unbelievable! It’s their right to freedom of speech. I wish the students would have still continued.

the school is Cambridge high school I was at the protest and it was absurd what everyone doesn’t know is that before that they tried to say their speech over microphones and the teachers cut the power to the microphones so they had to go to a table top and then this happened
-
Oh my gosh that is so awful! I can’t believe they took it that far to suppress all the students who wanted to speak. Yesterday was supposed to allow students a voice, and to address their concerns during this very scary and confusing time in this country.

The students WERE peaceful, not loud and noisy. They were exercising their right to free speech. The staff member overstepped her bounds. Very unfair.

Students do not shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse gates. This is a Supreme Court ruling. Seems likes teacher needs a civics lesson!

The students where I live were all given detention for protesting their own safety. So essentially, the school told them to stay there longer. Makes sense.

Is it liberal for kids to exercise their right to freedom of peaceful assembly and freedom of speech as given by the same constitution conservatives claim to love too? No it really isn’t. Listen to them. They will be old enough to vote by 2020.
-
Kids don’t have full constitutional rights. Tinker v Des Moines says they can express themselves as long as it doesn’t disrupt school. There are tons of potential issues with student walkouts that people are ignoring just so they can score political points.
-
Tinker v. Des Moines. On February 24, 1969 the Supreme Court ruled 7-2 that students do not "shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate."
-
Again, they also state that constitutional right has restrictions and cannot disrupt school.

Funny how “ liberals “ are snowflakes for being afraid of guns but the tough guy right is terrified of free speech.

Got to love how the ones standing against these kids are going to more and more desperate measures. You know that's when you're having the most effect. Keep it up!!

Everybody cares so much about the damn 2nd amendment, what about the 1st amendment?! You know, the right to peacefully assemble and freedom of speech...

I thought a teacher's job was to encourage questioning and critical thinking? This woman should maybe reevaluate her career choice.
-
Student protest turned violent in stockton California. You see one small part of the speech, and have no idea what is taking place outside the camera view. Perhaps if you are going to encourage others to think critically you should practice it as well.
