On the one hand, if he were to get the death penalty, more court cases would be required and lots of taxpayer money would be spent. On the other hand, he could remain alive, costing less money in total, but he would have the ability to plan an escape and cause another tragedy.

I guess it comes down to Money versus Human Ethics.

As
@ruth_schleifer mentioned, a trial would also put NRA on trial, at least in public opinion. That might be a good thing. They have to be in this conversation -
Either way, there's going to be a trial. The question is of how many trials, and how much money will be spent in the process.
-
Often, when the accused pleads guilty immediately, the is not trial. Only a sentencing hearing. It’d be up to the judge to allow victim statements @ sentencing (which is pretty much a given)
-
I see. The NRA's input would be useless, though, because they'd be like "The gun didn't kill these people, this kid did.". My rebuttal would be that he wouldn't have had such a fucking easy time with it if he hadn't had access to that AR-15 to begin with.
-
That’s exactly what I mean. NRAs input/arguements would be dragged into the light of day for an intelligent response & discussion amongst people who maybe don’t have all the facts but “talking points” from 2A fanatics
-
And if Parkland wasn't bad enough, on that same day, the same thing almost happened in Everett, Washington. If his grandmother hadn't read his journal, we'd have two mass tragedies in one day. They haven't released his name yet, but he had a gun in his guitar case at school.

I am completely and whole heartedly against the death penalty in all cases PLEASE take it off the table, don't prolong this... Let him begin to get the help he so desperately needs and let the suffering community be done with the court case at the very least
@helenprejean -
Ever heard of Jailhouse Justice? He’s gonna wish the death penalty was on the table.
-
I doubt they’d put him in GP for that to happen but idk

There’s ways w/o being in gen pop. I’m sure the guards where he’s going aren’t going to be his biggest fans. Someone’s always gotta earn their bones.

I'm sorry but no. 17 children don't get another chance to breathe, neither should he! He can take it up with God at this point.

17? The students say that it's countless, with bodies all over some floors! One student said he couldn't walk out without stepping on the corpse of somebody he knew.

Good attorney. It's the best he ever could have done for his client, and the government will likely take it for immediate closure for the victims' families.
