Why is it so difficult for drivers to slow down while driving in a snowstorm with low visibility? Someone explain please

I can’t explain but the other thing I see is folks driving without their headlights on- just as crazy!
-
Headlights on. Phone down. Gear down. Slow down. And get there safely. Not hard to do.

visibility was very low, but you can tell many were going too fast for the conditions.
-
Because a lot of them drive SUVs and think they are invincible in the elements.

I agree.

Amazed by how the two big trucks, despite their size & difficulty, were able to dodge this pileup. The smaller cars went straight through the pile. Those two 18 wheeler drivers deserve an award b/c otherwise, it could have been more fatal.
-
I believe some of it is due to more weight on the wheels that move the trucks giving more traction and they know how its better to ditch than to hit brakes (look at all the emergency runaway ramps in the mountains for example like in TN)

Those two truck drivers had some skills though.

I was thinking the same, those two spared some lives no doubt.

I hope those big rig drivers are ok. They managed not to hit anyone.

We had similar pile ups here in Missouri last Sunday. Here at least it came really fast without warning and formed a glaze on the road almost instantly. Vehicles going downhill could not slow down or stop due to the ice and it just caused massive pile ups very much the same way.
