I'm not sure this is good. When it becomes more difficult for landlords to collect from deadbeat tenants, fewer landlords accept pets, rental requirements get stricter, & the least attractive tenants, usually young families, have a brutally difficult time finding decent rentals.

Yeah I was thinking that too. But arrests may be too far why don't they do like everything else & garnish any income the deadbeat tenets receive? Jail ensures even less money
-
I don't think jail is directly involved. Last time I checked the US didn't have debtor prison. Its more like issuing an arrest warrant for tenants who don't show in court. Just like many other warrants.
-
There is a much better article in the Baltimore Sun. In some cases, tenants are jailed.
-
And the charge is not paying rent? Or not obeying court order?

Unpaid rent is a civil contractual issue. No rent debtor should be subject arrest at any amount of debt.

As a former landlord that was living paycheck to paycheck at the time this is horrible the hoops you have to jump through to get a bad tenant out of your property are horrendous and then they usually leave thousands of dollars worth of clean up one tenant who we were very kind to
-
Not a fan of Jared however I did think of landlords like yourself.
-
Thank you we no longer are landlords it was to taxing on us emotionally and the long term financial benefits didn’t outweigh the hardships of being a landlord but I appreciate that you can see it from a landlords perspective
-
During the recession my street was filled with homes that were rented and abused. We own so it's not like we could easily leave. Renters would stay until they legally had to leave. It sucked for us that were invested in the community.

Give me a break... seriously... to some of us, $5,000 in unpaid rent could cause financial ruin. This is another asinine action from asinine people.
