As an ex-vet, I can assure you that there are some thing a family of a fallen soldier do not need to see repeated in the press.
-
I agree but I also think Americans need to know about the horrors of combat. News is so sanitized that it allows us to be removed from it.
-
I agree too many gung ho gun lovers have zero understanding of what a gun, bomb or machet does, for real in life. However that was more than covered, when the body was returned, and in the furor following
@realDonaldTrump's attack on a grieving widow. Time to stop & grieve! -
Sometimes seeing is believing. Emmett Till's mother made her son's ghastly death and her overwhelming grief public and it sparked the civil rights movement. It's hard to shrug it off when you see it. But that's the family's choice for sure.
-
exactly y point, information like this should be given to the family first, and if they then wish to use it in a political sense, then it is their choice. As is the rush to sensationalise the story has denied them their right to chose.
-
We already know he was mutilated so bed, his wife was told it was best not to view the body, surely that is enough info and a stark enough indictment oh the horrors of war.
-
They refused to let her see the body; there's a difference.
-
I have never known a case where it was refused; even so once the body is handed over to the family they can do what they like. We know his death was horrific, that should be enough, and the family should not have to walk past a TV or newsagent and see their pain on display!

This is disgraceful. All congress people need to find out what happened in Niger. Give this man & his family some dignity so that they can heal.
#sgtladavidjohnson#BringAllOfHimHome -
It’s not important to the Republican side of it. Just say Benghazi they’ll be all over it
-
All sad. I feel sorry for his pregnant widow who is not getting the full story & to have your husbands body returned in bits is beyond reproach. These people give up their lives for country, yet in the end their families are fighting for dignity coz its now bipartisan. Sickening
-
Never should have a service until his body all of him was home

So the reason they had a closed casket is they didn’t get *all* of his remains? What the actual fuck? As an American citizen I require an explanation for this.
-
Yeah, WTF is going on here?
