THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE UNIONS.
-
-
-
This is for safety, its stressed in orientation not to pursue thieves, observe and report in all retail stores.
-
Understood. And it deserves a good write up, not unemployment.
-
Can confirm as a former HD employee they make very very clear at training that chasing them into the lot results in termination, regardless
-
Not sure we are able to educate people on this issue. They seem to think rules only apply to ones who choose to follow them.
-
I mean, I feel for the guy, I really do- got caught up in the moment. But they have to let him go, its too big a risk if anyone else does it
-
Why unions exist. To fight this type of bullshit. He might as well have stolen the stuff himself. Same result.

Fired because he was doing his job
-
Not his job, he was not a member of security. He should however pursue a job in security next.

Whatever happened to: 1st incident verbal warning?
-
As a former employee...it is specifically written and vocalized to NOT chase a thief out the door. That job belongs to the LPS.
-
Gotcha! Thanks

It's a stupid store policy, fight it in Court.
-
Even if the Court would not touch store policy, they could agree that to get fired without warning is excessive punishment.
-
If I only retained one thing from law school, it's this: if something sounds wrong or too stupid for you, it could mean that you have a case

"Tinney says he was trained to not confront shoplifters and knows he violated company policy." Case closed, his vet status is irrelevant.

I say Home Depot doesn't deserve him. But I am sorry he was disrespected and I hope someone hires him based on this story.
