What “must” happen, is that we make safe education the priority. Not stuffing kids back into schools to spread disease or be victims of mass murder.

It’s almost as if one individual’s preferences don’t dictate what society at large does. And: the individual has agency to act in their own interest without society forcing them to do the opposite. Huh.

I would absolutely consider hiring a teacher that felt teaching was too risky for them at this time after this crisis ends. I would not hire a teacher who resigned like this.

It is difficult situation with a lot of risk. I know it was not an easy decision for her. She’s not alone. Teachers need to think about their health and family’s health too.

Of we truly valued education, schools would be properly funded, staffed and safe. The fact that none of this is happening shows that we don’t.
