I think it's more about just wishing for the opression (and its memory) to be gone so strongly, that they are making quick and maybe controversial decisions.

I'm personally against that. I believe we should save these statues, to remember. If we remember, we won't make the same mistakes ever again (at least hopefully). At the same time I understand why anyone would want to remove them. Those weren't the best times.

Monuments destruction can't change history in retrospective terms. Historical chapters of Oppression and discrimination must be confronted. Monuments can assist societies to question critically history& don't forget it.
