Depends on the sample populations. Lets just take NY for example. If they just sample the city region, it might be less true. But if we expand that to the entire state of ny, suburban and rural parts, where is majority white than this would be more true.

Because the Hispanic and black communities where the hardest hit due to greater social activities and gatherings and living in higher density urban areas. Queens NY had the worst outbreak in the US because due to shutdown Hispanics had nothing to do but partying & hanging out...

I would bet the correlation is far better with social and economic class. The best conclusion is most likely that more poor people are dying, and that more black and hispanic people are poor.
