But they can contact donors to ask for changes. If their donors say no, too bad for them. They can close and force the donors to allow changes. No taxpayer money!

Yes, but academia has been using endowment funds as cover to expand, and this has become the problem, as much of the expansion is non-essential.

What if the university has to shut down permanently? What happens to those endowments? They couldn’t be used to prevent the school from closing permanently?
