At present, there is no evidence that companion animals/pets such as dogs or cats can be infected with the virus. However, it is always a good idea to wash your hands with soap and water after contact with pets.

This is impossible for people who live alone with their pets. If one of us gets it we’re both dying together.

The two or three symptomatic felines that have been confirmed positive have actually recovered/are recovering! So pets will likely be ok
if you have cats, they’re probably just going to sit on your body til dinner. Dogs will bark to alert the neighbors.pic.twitter.com/tzt4pY5gbK

There’s not enough info to confirm/deny pets can get infected. Some viruses historically don’t cause illness in certain animals, but some can still carry/transmit. This virus is so new and unclear it’s better to be cautious. We barely know how to treat it in humans at this point
