If you don't want your kid to have a smartphone that young, that's okay. But not having any kind of communication device PERIOD is a dangerous decision. Thankfully this worked out okay but a preventable problem

She had good intentions not wanting her kids glued to apps all day. A flip phone seems like a perfectly reasonable choice, though I hope kids still feel they can approach safe adults and that they know the phone numbers for their parents. We don't know anyone's number anymore!

I have seniors getting ready to graduate and they do not know their address or a contact phone number

She was to meet her nanny at a coffee shop, but ended up at the wrong coffee shop. It's NYC. I suppose it's normal for a kid to step off a school bus and head to a meeting place to catch a nanny. It just sounds odd to those of us in suburban areas.
