As a Californian I’m torn - housing definitely needs to be more affordable, but I’d also love to see us lose some of our overcrowding problems by having people move elsewhere. No easy win, I suppose.

From what I understand, the issue isn't housing shortages but the type of houses being cleared to be built & foreign buyers inflating house prices like in other major cities, NYC, Sydney, London etc.

Good. Too many places like Palo Alto, Menlo Park, etc. want the big tech office parks, but are unwilling to provide housing stock for the tens of thousands of employees who work there, pushing them to already crowded cities - whether they want to be there or not.
