Well the kid should have looked first before he crossed.

He's a child. The driver of the car is a licensed driver, an adult. In every state I've lived, pedestrians have the right of way. Stop (near) victim blaming.
-
Parents should still teach their kids to look before they cross the street even for school buses.

But seriously... it also looks like the buses flashing stop sign failed to swing out.
-
Yep. Amazing to me that they want to show this as the fault of a driver rather than a faulty bus.
-
How big and YELLOW does the bus need to be for you to understand and surmise kids WILL BE around the bus???!!! Regardless of there being a sign or not. The school bus is a universal symbol of school children - so drive with caution!!!
-
Why are people arguing about this??? It's either a fact or it isn't that the stop sign on the bus was malfunctioning? Lol
-
If the flashing lights at the top of the bus are working...most state laws base stopping restrictions on those lights.
-
Sure sure. It's funny to me though how you can make a simple observation and people will assume you're saying something other than simply what you said.

Call me crazy, but sign or no sign, when I see a school bus at a full stop on a road I err on the side of caution. At a bare minimum slow down and prepare to stop. Not to mention the fact that the driver should've been able to see kids beside the road & that's reason for caution
-
You forget it’s 2018 and everyone is in a hurry and distracted by their phone, makeup, food or anything else that can distract them. This type of accident is preventable though for both parties involved. Driver, pay attention to the road. Parents have to teach the kids to look.
-
I didn't forget about driver distraction for a moment. I simply don't forgive it, like some people apparently do. That is absolutely not an excuse. NOPE. When you're driving a car, that is ALL you should be doing. Ya got something else to do, STOP.
-
Here's a $2-million dollar victim of distracted driving. Thankfully, in this case, the victim was only a car. If you killed a kid on the road instead, would his parents find consolation that it happened because you had to answer the phone?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NJmB1F2mdE …

To me what is shocking is that parent not moving an inch even after he narrowly escapes death. WTF??

The school bus driver is at fault here. Whenever possible the driver is supposed to pick up the students so that the door of the bus
opens to the right of where they are entering. Having them cross a busier Street to get to the bus
puts them in harms way unnecessarily. -
Yeah, it was a close call. Good thing the kid managed to avoid getting run over.
-
Scary! And in fairness to the driver, there are some school transportation departments that will set up a bus run like we saw in the video. Change it and you can get fired.

-
Where I live in Australia most parents will drop their kids off at school in their cars. The speed limit in the school zones are lowered from 60 km/h to 40 km/h between 0700 to 0900 and 1400 to 1600. Works pretty well here.
