I always find it entertain when mainstream media talks about religion, specifically Christianity, and there is no mention of the Bible. The Bible is the source and foundation of a Christian's faith. Shouldn't that be cited as a source in the role of women and men in the church?

No. The time when the bible was written, women were subserviant and chattel. Times change. Women don't want to take a back seat anymore. Their voices, roles and value should not be limited just because it was done that way in ancient times.
-
Agreed but I want to point out that the Bible was a very progressive document FOR ITS TIME. A fact that many modern Christians don’t take into account. There are several examples of women in power in both the OT and NT. And a call for women to get educated. 1/2

If you follow that line of thought to a modern setting. It absolutely makes sense to have women in a position of power in the Church. It grinds my gears when modern Christians use the Bible (which I feel is very clear on the subject) to oppress women when it’s supposed to uplift

I have never been able to accept this “traditional” view and today there is research and discussion that calls the accuracy/interpretation on which it is based into question.http://www.beliefnet.com/faiths/christianity/2006/03/did-scribes-edit-women-out-of-the-bible.aspx …

Even if you quote the Bible perfectly and know 100% that the translation is accurate, one must still take into account exegesis. (Studying the historical context. Who wrote it, if possible to know. Who was it written for. How to apply it to a modern setting) 1/2
-
The problem is literal interpretation and application in today’s world. And also not praying and seeking guidence from the Holy Spirit enough while reading. Many aspects of the Bible can be applied to a modern setting. Other’s can’t. (And shouldn’t be.)
-
And I don’t think women were edited out of the Bible by later authors. That’s getting into the realm of conspiracy theory, and without proof, it’s not worth thinking about, imo. One must just use their brain to see clearly that the Bible is not about oppressing women.

1. This article is reaching. 2. This is not the same man that had his arm around Ariana Grande.

This is not just a black church problem. Almost all Christian churches favor men over women as leaders.

Interesting...the comments seem out of line b/c they were not appropriate for eulogy which should have been about Aretha Franklin. But it’s not really sexist to suggest that children need a father role model, especially if the child is a male.

You turn a funeral for a much loved woman into a political rally people are rightly going to get upset

That's a pretty broad brush to be painting most black Ministers as sexual predators.. There are people good and bad of ALL races and ALL religions. ABC and the MSM using Democratic Parties "Identity Politics" To divide a community certainly won't help.

No woman should have to experience inappropriate touching. The eulogy also laid bare before the world that prominent people were willing to share the the stage with Louis Farrakhan.
