What kind of lizard is that?
-
It's called a monitor lizard and are prevalent in SW Florida. We have one in the neighborhood that is over 6 feet and called Elvis.

How far south? Tampa? I hope not. I’m sure I would have a heart attack if I saw one of these. Hell, the Pygmy rattlesnake just about did me in!
-
Cape Coral, Florida...it's between Tampa and Naples.
-
Any chance they migrate up to Tampa?
-
I don't think so...they like trees and water. Cape Coral is a canal city.
-
Those things weren't there when I was a kid...when did they start to show up?
-
I've been here since 1999 and they were already established in the area. This article says since the '90's.https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2016/04/the-past-and-future-of-floridas-dragon-problem/478905/ …

That thing looks like a Komodo dragon

It’s related to Komodo dragons

Why didn't they call their DNR or a critter removal service to trap him or catch him and relocate him?? Weeks is way too long to let a reptile control your property! That's NUTS!

Why didn’t they use the Florida stand your ground law and shoot That lizard ? It would be made into a nice pair of shoes and matching wallet if that was my back yard !
-
That’s what I was thinking! Shot the darn thing. It’s not native to Florida. It’s not endangered. If I had little kids and that thing was in my yard, hubby would have shot it already.
-
Yep the typical American solution... shooting it...
-
Yes indeed
