It's actually pretty tragic, listen to the voice recording to hear how he was completely unhinged. It's very lucky he didn't crash it in a populated area.

He may have worked at the airport, so he had more access to planes than the average person. Sill, that was a bold move stealing the jet plane and doing loops and barrel rolls over suburbia, especially in this day and age.
