Seems fair. Now the people of the town will be crying for the Police. And only the criminals will have weapons. And a few responsible armed citizens will be able to protect themselves.

I don't know about where you live. But where I live the state police take a long time. But again. I would be fine.

They no longer have to.

So you became cops for the “thank yous” instead of to “help people”....good to know your hearts were in the right place.
-
“Help the people”. Who could care less if they are killed performing their duties? The same “The people” who seem to be actively conspiring against these same officers charged with protecting their own safety?
-
Thats like saying every american soldier should resign because some americans are pacifists who protest war.
-
Except that war protesters don’t decide the conditions that soldiers will serve under. And in the recent age, even if they did, the protesters would probably have a higher regard for the basic safety of the soldiers than this town has for its own protectors.
-
War protesters do decide what type of conditions they serve under. They set the tone here where soldiers and there families call home. And “even in the recent age”-its called the present. You should join us. Its possible to respect someone’s sacrifices and still disagree.
-
War protesters generally don’t make decisions about equipment, missions, commanding officers, etc. “The recent age” is a broader period than I would use “the present” to describe. And yes, it’s possible to respect someone’s sacrifice even if you disagree. Which was my point.
-
An entire police force resigning because the people the promised to protect disagree with them doesnt seem too respectful.

4 guys? Who were underpaid, had shoddy equipment and were about to be merged for cost cutting? Yeah, I can see it. The officials in the town pretending this caught them unawares seem less than sincere. Hunch thingy.

Being a police officer is not a popularity contest.

Good! Can't say I dont blame them one bit. I feel sorry for the ones who actually respect them and will need them. I say put the military in there and let them really see how good they had it.

If the town does improve conditions or pay for this department, those 4 cops should never be rehired. Quitting without notice, especially all at once, is not how you do things. Unreliable and untrustworthy.

The Massachusetts’s State Police are an example of what being a public servant means and their prevention, enforcement, and investigation continue to be top notch.
