Well they already have the smell of human feces surrounding them so what's a little asbestos gonna do?!
-
I would just say feces. I wouldn’t even limit it to humans.

Mayor de Blasio said tests found "no meaningful presence of asbestos in the air." Does this mean no presence of asbestos? To be clear any presence of asbestos in the air is unsafe if breathed into a persons lungs.. right?

I call BS on the good mayor’s assessment. I’ve not seen any pics of him strolling around that area. Surely that would be a fantastic PR opportunity to ease the minds of his constituents. Vaporized asbestos seems like a bad idea.
-
Actually to his credit he did go there. He did a press conference actually. I bet there’s asbestos but the concentration of it in the steam hopefully not too concentrated
-
I guess I missed that. Could you send the link, please?
-
I can’t seem to copy this link but here maybe you can find itpic.twitter.com/L80jOvYZOH
-
I mean...the best I can tell is the news reports say he made comments “near” the scene. Still haven’t seen any pics or videos to prove he was anywhere “near” it while asbestos was being dispersed into the air. I’m still open to new evidence though.

You might be right

There is no such thing as a safe level of asbestos. The fibers are microscopic, and do not decay. Once airborne or openly exposed, they present a permanent danger. Asbestos causes numerous diseases, including the horrific cancer mesothelioma. /1
-
The period between exposure and detectable disease development can be decades. Almost all cases of meditations about Discovery until the disease has advanced to later stages, which is when treatment is most difficult. Exposure avoidance is thus essential. /2
-
The Mayor's role no doubt includes reassuring the citizenry that events are under control. However, if the testing demonstrated that asbestos had been released, stating the amount was not "meaningful" was malfeasance. People in the area should be instructed /3
-
to take precautions in the area, particularly with airborne fibers. Steps as simple as wearing a mask would be prudent. Unnecessary trips to the area should be discouraged. The city should immediately undertake professional remediation of all debris. /4
