Rapid descent after loss of cabin pressure. That's what a pilot is supposed to, and trained to, do. But hey, go ahead and sensationalise a rare but standard emergency procedure.

Standard rate of decent ranges from 2,500 fpm to 4,000 fpm. While quick, I think “plummeted” is a little over the top. Not every news story needs to be a ‘10’.

They call that a nose dive where I come from.

The term you want is controlled emergency descent.

I expected screaming, crying, and chaos. The dead quiet is much scarier. When you *know* you might die.
