        Clarification on haboob?

A haboob (Arabic: هَبوب, translit. habūb, lit. 'blasting/drifting') is a type of intense dust storm carried on an atmospheric gravity current, also known as a weather front. Haboobs occur regularly in dry land area regions throughout the world. Common in the Desert Southwest.

Great clarification, Steven. It literally means (blowing winds), but we only use it in Arabic for slightly strong wind storms, but when they causes strong dust storms we call them: (‘Aj) عج; or (shi’ef) شعف.

You’re most welcome, Mr Mac. I think the first use of “haboob” in English on English-speaking country & media dates back to 2011. Here’s the video: https://youtu.be/4tQnDp0batM  Maybe @MerriamWebster can elaborate more on its usage history.
