Why do we ask teachers like this man to work for such a pitiful salary and give him so little respect as a professional? Teachers across the nation hold our futures in their hands. The time is now to recognize them, pay them well and give them the respect they deserve.

Teacher to teacher, same! I would also do what ever it takes to stop someone from harming my students. But don’t ask me to bring a gun into my classroom to do it. We need to solve the issue with laws(gun & MH)that prevent violence & keep every classroom a weapon free safe place.
-
All of the jurisdictions that have approved school staff to carry on campus have required even more firearms training than that of Law Enforcement, that I have seen so far. Training and practice along with certification are key.
-
Only law enforcement(which I’m very grateful for)should carry weapons on school grounds, that’s the job they have signed up and trained for. Teaching is a completely different job, keep them separate. No weapons in the classroom.
-
Agreed. If I had wanted to be a police officer, I would have chosen that profession.
-
Exactly. Not that I wouldn’t defend/protect my students, but I think keeping my classroom a safe place (weapon free) is also doing that.

THAT is a hero . . . and HE did NOT need a gun to stop "a bad guy with a gun" thank you sir!pic.twitter.com/c1bJoTC06Y

Would he be less of a hero if he did have a gun? How does this silly argument work?

He’s white... so dt may acknowledge his heroism sooner than he did James Shaw.
-
Maybe? But he stopped the bad guy without having a gun himself. That doesn't fit the current narrative that "we need good guys with guns to stop bad guys with guns."
-
That’s true. Shaw didn’t need no stinkin’ gun.

First- He is a Hero. Period! A teacher, yes. A most compassionate and humble human who would have responded in the same way regardless of a classroom setting or any other venue with resolve, Outstanding! Thank You!

This is NOT about caring for your students. It’s about how you did what you thought was the right thing to do; and did it selflessly, without a second thought. It makes you very different from me. You’re a much bigger, better person. I can only learn from you. Take credit.
