I called the police when I was almost killed in 2015. The 1st questions asked of me, sitting before the police officers, crying, with a black eye and many visible marks, was what my preferred drug of choice was and what I had been doing to get into that situation.
In encounters with police, Black women face uneven power dynamics along with harmful stereotypes of promiscuity and sexual availability. Substance dependence, prior criminal charges and poverty also limit Black women's ability to seek justice #HDD2018 #AAWLC2018 #HDDTownHall
