Five years ago today, Virginia Beach police rammed into India Kager's parked car and fired 30-50 rounds into the car, killing her. India's four-month-old son Roman was in the backseat and was left permanently disabled. India was suspected of no wrongdoing. #SayHerNamepic.twitter.com/8a6rpjwg2g
When Virginia Beach police began recklessly shooting, India turned around and lunged toward the backseat to protect Baby Roman. She was struck ten times by the officer's bullets. India was gunned down in front of her son. #SayHerName
After the shooting, Virginia Beach Chief Jim Cevera showed sympathy only for the the officers who killed India, stating that the officers would likely need therapy because of how the shooting affected them.
Six months after the police killed India, Virginia Beach prosecutor Colin Stolle announced that he would not be pressing any criminal charges against the officers even though he found “[t]here is absolutely no evidence that Ms. Kager was a part of any ... illegal activity."

India was an artist and Navy veteran who was a loving and supportive parent. When the police killed her, she wasn't armed. She wasn't the subject of any investigation. She had done nothing wrong. The officers still killed her.
Her life mattered.
