In Colorado, this dangerous practice is justified as being necessary to deal with people suffering "excited delirium." What exactly is excited delirium? A made up condition often used to justify police violence:https://twitter.com/AAPolicyForum/status/1290456617960579076 …

African American Policy ForumVarmennettu tili @AAPolicyForumWhat exactly is "excited delirium?" It's a psuedoscientific condition that is almost exclusively cited as a cause of death in cases of police brutality, as a way to shift the blame from killer cops to the person that police have killed; it's a form of victim blaming. Paul Applebaum, a past president of the American Psychiatry Association has asked “if excited delirium was a real and discrete diagnostic category, one would tend to see it arise in other places, and other circumstance ... Why is it only in police encounters that this occurs[?]"

One of the most violent and insidious aspects of police use of involuntary ketamine injections is how often they're used against people who are already restrained. The police murder of Elijan McClain is one tragic example.https://www.thecut.com/2020/06/elijah-mcclain-injected-with-ketamine.html …

"I just can't breathe correctly" were Elijah McClain's last words as he was already handcuffed and had been placed in a chokehold by officers who had called paramedics to inject him with ketamine. After he was injected, officers slapped him to make sure he was unconscious.

McClain went into cardiac arrest in the ambulance and never regained consciousness. The officers who murdered him were cleared of wrongdoing and the coroner's report attempted to blame McClain for his own death.https://www.thecut.com/2020/08/the-killing-of-elijah-mcclain-everything-we-know.html …

Max Johnson was suffering a diabetic seizure when his girlfriend called for help. EMS and MPD officers who arrived refused to believe that Johnson only needed sugar to stabilize his condition. They instead injected him with ketamine.https://www.startribune.com/ketamine-shot-sends-man-to-icu-renews-calls-for-probe/571997552/ …

Johnson ended up spending two days on a ventilator. His partner wrote "This happened because Max is a 6’5” Black man. My whiteness was not enough to save him from the Hennepin Healthcare EMS and MPD’s egregious racism and life-threatening decisions."
