Birtherism is not just a debunked conspiracy theory, it's a vile and racist attack that will be lobbed against any Black pres/VP candidate. The people spreading birtherism don't actually care about where Obama or Harris were born, they view Blackness as a disqualifying condition.
Even as Trump and much of the GOP have abandoned dog whistles in favor of overt racism, they recognize that they still have to use coded language to share what they really believe: that a Black person should not be allowed to be president.
This was true and obvious in 2008 when Trump and the GOP launched racist attacks against President Obama but it's worth saying again not that Sen. Harris is being smeared in the exact same way. Birtherism is laundered white supremacy. Birthers are white supremacists. Full stop.
