On Aug. 14, 2014, mere days after Mike Brown was murdered in Ferguson, Phoenix Police killed Michelle Cusseaux during a mental health call. Michelle’s mother took Michelle's coffin to city hall, demanding that “someone is going to recognize that my daughter was killed by police.”
The heartbreaking reality of Michelle’s death is all too similar to the stories of Tanisha Anderson, Decynthia Clements, Deborah Danner, Natasha McKenna, Kayla Moore, and Charleena Lyles—Black women who were killed by police while experiencing mental health crises.
