Before calling the police, ask yourself "am I okay with the possibility that this person may be killed because of this call?" That is what's at stake when you call police because someone is blasting music, committing a traffic violation, or experiencing a mental health crisis.
Almost every American, from an extremely young age, is taught to call the cops when they have a problem. Many people call the cops for explicitly racist reasons. Others have good intentions when they do so. In both types of scenarios, calling the cops can be lethal.
The primary responsibility for reducing the societal roles cops occupy falls to policymakers & elected officials. In the absence of their leadership, we should refuse to participate in a system that so often responds to poverty, homelessness, & mental health crises with violence.

You know, I saw some cops pull over a motorcycle today and all eyes were on them. Just watching. I told my son that if I see any roughness going on to stay in the car and film everything. There’s no way I’ll stand back Not on my watch

Young man in my complex....I watched him for awhile because I was so worried someone would call the cops on him. Idk if he was new to our building, but I was so worried about him. I went out, asked if he was ok. I told him. Knock on my door right there if u need me!
I was worried he would see me as a threat & questioning why he was there. But that was not it. I was genuinely scared for him...I needed for him to be ok.
My aunt had a mental crisis. Her husband tried to keep the crisis contained to get her the mental health that she needed. But then their pre teen kid called the cops. My aunt was forced from her home & family when she should have been getting care.
So I agree. If someone accidentally uses a $20 bill, it is worth risking their death by calling the police? We have to make that judgment call from now on.
