During the massacre, white mobs and the National Guard killed more than 150 Black Tulsans, left 10,000+ Black residents homeless, and destroyed more than $32M in Black-owned property. The massacre is only one of many incidents of racist terrorism targeted at Black Americans.

In Tulsa, the white mob was aided by the National Guard and abetted by both city and state officials, some of whom actively participated in the destruction. Private vigilante violence and public state violence combined to terrorize and brutalize a Black community.
