This is an early prototype of the Macintosh SE. Though you can clearly see the similarities to the production version next to it, the prototype has some subtle but interesting differences that show the evolution from the case design from the Macintosh Plus case to this model.pic.twitter.com/t6ae0FpzCm
The Mac SE was launched by Apple in 1987 along with the Macintosh II. These two models were a significant upgrade over the Macintosh Plus, with added capabilities such as expansion slots (SE stood for System Expansion), internal hard drives, ADB, SCSI, etc.
They were also the first Apple computers since the Apple-1 in 1976 to come without a keyboard, and the first to include cooling fans. Also pictured is a production Macintosh SE in a http://MacEffects.com transparent case.
This Macintosh SE prototype is really close to the production model.
