    Today 1941 anniversary of Rudolf Hess' flight to Scotland claiming seeking peace. Tried at Nuremberg & sentenced to life imprisonment. Despite conspiracy theories seems Hess, deluded, acted alone. Britain sought Hess' release from Spandau in 1980s but refused by Soviets.

    Mandela's 1994 inauguration anniversary. His 1st overseas visit was UK. Pilloried by /media for refusing tighter sanctions against Apartheid regime Thatcher had secretly pushed for Mandela's release. Her efforts deserve wider recognition.
