    On Afghanistan: been talking to a few close friends on the ground in Kabul. These are non-journos & don't tweet. 1) It is confusion+uncertainty all around. No one knows what's happening. Like, who is actually in charge. Police stations were deserted. PD 4 was apparently robbed.

    was stimmt denn nun? "Taliban hätten zugesagt, Zivilisten werde 'sichere Durchfahrt' zum Flughafen gewährt: US Nat. Sicherheitsberater am Dienstag. ... Zuvor hatte Heiko Maas gesagt, dass sie nur Ausländer, jedoch keine afgh Bürger durchließen."

    Die will nur Ausländer und keine afghanischen Bürger zum Flughafen in Kabul durchlassen. Deutschland und die USA wollen das nicht hinnehmen und verhandeln.

    The Taliban are saying a lot of the right things. As part of actions they can take to prove their commitment, they should agree to a UN human rights monitoring mechanism for the next at least 5 yrs. This will be a great confidence building measure, so Taliban should embrace it.

    The Taleban continue to consider themselves entitled to granting amnesty others but do not seek one from the people. How about also a truth commission?
