I guess it's easier for Italian police to force bunk charges on a refugee than actually try to prosecute human traffickers. It's abt numbers
-
I didn't give them any photos. Eventually they let me go back to the boat, no problem, no charge and passport in hand.
-
But anyone who works on EU border issues knows that there is hardly ever a smuggler aboard a rubber boat. Someone else drives for a discount
-
The guy said if they can ID anyone driving the boat they'll find them in the camps afterwards and press charges against them for smuggling.
-
They want photos of the rubber boat drivers so they can use them as evidence for human trafficking charges.
-

Coast guard says it's Italian law for me to hand over photos. I say show me a court order.
@guardiacostiera is this official policy? -
And now the Italian coast guard is trying to get me to hand over photos, hassling me for my EU visa.

The Italian coast guard came to help yesterday, embarking from their RHIBS to the Golfo. They took ~50 people, we've got ~250 aboard.
