I spent the day at an old-timey children’s roadside attraction. Stop me if you’ve heard this classic joke before.

A line-art painting of a happy pig. On its stomach is a hinged panel reading “How loud is a pig’s squeal?”
The same image as the last, but a hand is opening the hinged panel. Beneath it reads “The squeal of a frightened pig can measure 115 decibels, higher than the noise of a jet plane taking off (113 decibels)” The bottom of the flipped up panel appears to be rotting.

I did this portrait of my biggest crush, the Floating Crystal Witch, for my friend ’s new comic Reluctant Oracle #1! Will is a color wizard and his trippy sci-fi comics are a blast.

Vibrant low resolution pixel art of a creepy being floating above the ground. The being has long, thin brown arms protruding from a grey robe, and three crystals for a head. It’s surrounded by different color sparkles. The artwork has a flat, aqua color background.
Photo of an open book showing the Floating Pixel Witch artwork. The artwork is reproduced at a small size at the top of the page, and a cropped close-up appears at the bottom, showing the pixels up close.
The cover of a book titled Reluctant Oracle #1. Below the title is the artist’s name, William Cardini. The cover shows an armored being, perhaps a robot, with a misshapen hammer for a hand. It is floating in space, with a rainbow immediately behind it.

Will is a color superstar, and I love his playful, far-out stories. I’m psyched to have a drawing in his new book!

is it wrong to profit off your art? no. not at all, especially under capitalism where it can become necessary for survival. but does it harm the art? absolutely. to different degrees in different contexts, sure. but art is *always* made worse by being forced to double as product.

My entire life I’ve felt increasingly drawn to the desert. I know it’s only a matter of time before I give in. I fear I’ll never return.
