    These crinoid fossils can be found in rivers in certain parts of the UK, and were once thought to be fairy coins. Sometimes called ‘star stones’, they were also said to bring victory over your enemies.

    Some of these are CLEARLY wrong () but as someone who has lived the most time in Alaska and Illinois, I concur with those ratings 100%. Also, someone clearly hates Texas.

    Porcupine in the yard just now - pic is a little blurry b/c taken from window with zoom, and it's moving. This is the first time I realized that calm porcupines aren't spiky, just furry. I guess I've only ever seen them when they were a bit alarmed by dogs or whatnot.

    I already knew this in general theory (about the firelight) but the descriptions in this thread are so cool. I would really love to see this someday. And it's so fascinating to think how something as unremarked as electric light can change the whole experience.
