USPS’s package business, which competes with UPS and FedEx, is required to cover at least 5.5% of the fixed costs. UPS wants a higher minimum %, which would theoretically raise prices. Amazon thinks legal minimum is pointless. Unclear what Trump’s position is.

UPS thinks USPS has unfair advantage with monopoly business + flawed cost structure and needs to raise its shipping price. Amazon disagrees, wants to keep status quo. FedEx was in UPS’s camp but has mysteriously rescinded its filing last year.

New by me: Public filing back-and-forth between Amazon and UPS shows the post office issue is far more complicated than just calling it Amazon’s “Delivery Boy."

Forte, a new annual review process, is more popular. It highlights positive things, like your “super powers.” Connections data showed Amazon employees appreciate the focus on positives, HR boss Beth Galletti said in internal email.

Scoop: Amazon employees have mixed feelings about Connections, the daily Q&A program rolled out company-wide last April. A new team called People Science closely analyzes data. It hired ex-MSFT AI researcher Krish Krishnan for the team last year.

Again, nothing illegal here, but just a bit of financial engineering. Wall St won’t care because in the short term top line + bottom line growth looks good. We’ll see how this plays out in the coming years because Dropbox relies a lot on capital leases to run its business.

But to put on my cynical hat as a reporter, Dropbox's cash flow isn’t as strong as advertised. When more than half of your free cash flow is for to capital lease payments (an absolutely material part of their business), the FCF # is almost irrelevant:

Interesting how my Dropbox panda story from 2 years ago is still getting shared. Speaks to the dramatic improvement in Dropbox’s cash flow. Wall St. loves it, esp. given its ~30% revenue growth at $1B+. 40%+ first day pop is impressive.
