    In honor of , here's an excerpt on interpreting "outness" from my article Queer Possibility.

    Additionally, a closeted life is not necessarily an indication of a desire to remain clo seted. Just because it was not safe for an historical figure to be out in their public life does not mean that that person was ashamed of their sexuality or gender identity. Further, outness is not a binary. A person can be out to their partner, to their family, or to their community. And just because their straight and cisgender relatives were not aware of or refused to acknowledge their queerness does not mean that that person was truly closeted. It is still common for trans people to be misgendered after their deaths in their own obituaries.18 This erasure is an indignity and a violence. When weigh ing the risk of accidental queering against queer erasure, it is more just to err on the side of queerness.

    How do you show multiple possibilities & uncertainty in archaeological illustration? It’s challenging to visualize complex processes w/ several possible outcomes & w/o reducing them to set linear steps. Here’s one of my solutions in diagram form. 1/7

    Diagram showing the possible steps in constructing and using an earth oven from the Pend Oreille Valley. A cutaway of an earth oven in use is in the center of the image. It is surrounded by a circular flow of steps, the main ones being collecting construction supplies, gathering food resources, constructing the oven, cooking the food, a meal or storage of cooked food, and finally abandonment or reuse of oven.

    this is so fresh and smart, the sort of reading that makes you excited for comics, big recommend!

    the time has come... i spent 2019-2020 working on a 80 page comic called Spikes, and now you can get it as a PDF!!! its about a bunch of gay friends who suspiciously resemble Sonic the Hedgehog characters and their dramas and i hope people enjoy it
