    That's the appropriate civil-military outcome: the person who gets elected has a right to enact their policies, with the active assistance of their political appointees (who ought to be Senate confirmed, though), even over the objections of the military.

    This is diplomatic malpractice. We have nearly 30 partners with us in Iraq and Afghanistan. Unilateral moves without consultation erodes trust and confidence in the United States. It will be harder to build alliances—America’s comparative advantage over any competitor.

    He decided to join after 9/11 and did four tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He always wanted to help. He was 39 when he died of COVID-19. His son was two days old. They never met. Sergeant Michael Keene will be laid to rest tomorrow in South Carolina. Rest easy, brother.
