We’re renting our place in Barbados from a fam who owns a big mineral water biz. They work ALL the time: orders by phone, orders on trucks, inventory etc. There is so much automation that can help…these are the every day small biz problems I wish more tech people focused on.

You can now read about Microsoft's own journey over the years to Azure at this link, which includes all the posts we've published along the way: "The learnings, pitfalls, and compromises of Microsoft’s expedition to the cloud"

Every software developer makes mistakes, no developer can write 100% bug-free code. I'm going to share potentially the most embarrassing bug I've ever caused, which I just discovered in Paint.NET yesterday.

  6. Did y’all know that my 8 year old niece wrote some python code that shows a rainbow when humidity is detected, and the ISS implemented it. My 8 year old niece has written code that’s worked in space. Yeah. She’s my 2021 highlight.

  8. Just found out about svelte from this thread, at least I think I've just found out about it. A lot of people using/recommending svelte or blazor as the go to for front end these days.

Concern: Waiting for code reviews wastes time. Reality: I can be productive while waiting for a review. ✅ I review my own PR a final time. ✅ I review other code. ✅ I pair with others. ✅ I learn. ✅ I research my next task. The wait can (and should) be productive.

  10. Howdy folks, I donate to charities throughout the year and SARS sent me some tax moolah back. Since I had basically forgotten about it, this is bonus cash. I know times have been tough recently, so if you are short a bit this year, DM me your cell and I can send some vouchers.

I’m doing a experiment with my team starting Jan: no meetings Monday from 8 to noon. We’re blocking that time to get our calendars in order for the week + some focus work (things many do on Sunday night) We’ll run the experiment from Jan to June & report back!

Early in career coders: You know how old-heads can magically solve a problem in 5 minutes? It’s amazing. What they don’t mention is that’s because the magic of being senior is YEARS of debugging and HOURS of googling and reading and walking. They’ve seen it before. You will too!

🙋🏿‍♂️Engineering Director at Google here. I hire folk without degrees. Where you went to school isn't important because I'm hiring you, not your professors🤷🏿‍♂️ College is often so expensive that the richest people graduate, not necessarily the most talented or collaborative people.
