Since July 4, we have been operating on SW Salmon and SW 4th Ave., feeding anybody and everybody 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Almost all of the volunteers who have been with us since the beginning are houseless individuals who call Lownsdale Park their home. Over this short period, we’ve received over $330,000 in monetary donations and stopped accepting monetary donations on July 24. We began to receive so many physical donations of food, ice, coolers, and grills that it was no longer necessary to make our own supply runs. To us, serving food was never about the money.

We have all chosen to volunteer our time for this collective effort. However, with a large sum of money, and little to no experience organizing a mutual aid group at this scale, we turned to other organizations for help. On the evening of July 25, we announced our original plan to transfer everything over to Don’t Shoot PDX because we were overwhelmed. However, on that same night, we witnessed one of our original volunteers take money from our cash donation jar. We also received first-hand reports of this individual verbally, physically, and/or sexually abusing other volunteers. After repeatedly trying to resolve the issue on our own, we were unable to remedy the situation. This individual began to try to “run” Riot Ribs and set up an alternate CashApp and Twitter handle to continue operations in the park.

The individual is still attempting to operate as Riot Ribs in Lownsdale Park. They have set up multiple Twitter handles and CashApp handles, pretending to be us. We were violently assaulted as this individual forcibly removed everyone originally involved out of the park. For that reason, all original members of Riot Ribs are no longer in the park and do not feel safe continuing to feed people in Portland. We respectfully advise people to not interact with anyone claiming to be Riot Ribs, and to halt all donations to the blue tents in Lownsdale Park. We respectfully ask that you believe survivors of abuse and respect these requests. Moving forward, we intend on distributing a large amount of the remaining donations
