Due to hiring freezes & our prioritization of felonies, our misdemeanor team shrunk as we kept filing new cases. The result: average caseloads rose from ~150 in 2019 to nearly 250 today. That is too many cases for one attorney, no matter how hard working. We need more lawyers.
Didn't you fire at least 7 attorneys in the crime division when you took office? Perhaps this is directly why your case numbers went up. Did you think ahead and realize hiring freezes would make it difficult to replace them or were you just being your usual impulsive self?
