Okay dear friends, it is 4:30 am and I'm sad. I read a sad story, its sad explanation and some very sad reactions. That's right, I went down the "Cat Person" rabbit hole. Follow this thread for my upsetting analysis

Now to make things clear, I am neither an MRA nor an SJW, I try to be a rational humanist. I'm a manly man but also an emotional bean sometimes and compassion is what I do best. And this story brings out a lot of compassion, because it highlights very real issues people (1/2)

get to deal with in today's society. Dating in the social dynamic of the post-PC era has fixed a lot of issues revolving the equal values of feelings on both sides, but at the same time it's introduced the cumbersome implications of identity politics (2/2)

And this is where my problem with Cat Person comes, it makes a really genuine, caring point about the feelings of the sad bois out there and the poor girls who make the mistake of liking them. But it's the New Yorker, it has to push identity politics. That's where it goes bad.

I actually forgot to link to the actual story lol. Here's Kristen Roupenian's interview about it, original text is linked in the intro.https://www.newyorker.com/books/this-week-in-fiction/fiction-this-week-kristen-roupenian-2017-12-11?intcid=inline_amp …

I haven't explored Kristen's other work, but her first piece for the New Yorker hits all the right spots. Where I think it falls apart is in her explanation, where I can't help but feel she feels the need to sway the perspective to favor your average Buzzfeed feminist

Robert clearly confronts himself about his issues - his age, instability, awkwardness and being what /pol/ would call an incel in some regards. He is humanized beautifully and Kristen accurately depicts his self-loathing in the "Whore" part in the end

Margot is presented well too, encompassing the issues girls today have to deal with that still few recognize - the evidently higher risk of submissiveness that comes with traditional gender roles, also self-protection, date rape, etc. Girls do have it hard, esp those who care.

The story overall is representative of the matured and refined New Yorker and other non-shit media - it is no longer blatant and wrong like the 2015 SWJ period, it is aware that the SJW agenda can be far-fetched and rectifies that. But there is still some way to go.

Margot's roommate, whatever her name is, commits a by-the-book bitch move by sending that rushed text to Robert, disregarding the need for subtlety a man of his delicate position deserves. It's played off as something the girls can get away for granted.

In reality it isn't okay. Neither for girls nor guys. And Kristen and her interviewer take that as a given, appropriating stereotypical college bitch behavior as something everyone should just sense without notice and be able to cope with regardless

A truer rectification of the bonehead college jock vs basic thot mentality is to chastise them both, as decent people do. Instead, Margot and her friend are granted the right to leave distraught Robert clueless, while his own folly in the "Whore" line is shrugged off as (1/2)

As typical guy behavior, with no after thought dedicated to his rejection. People who point that out get lumped together with your average MRAs and get laughed at. They even made a Twitter client just for that. That is messed up.pic.twitter.com/qDVfJbqPkN

Kristen's story is touching and important, but the way it is handled just plays into the circular causality of identity politics and regressive liberalism we've been trying to talk sense into since the 2014 boom. There is still a long way to go.
