In 2016 the Lakes in question here were 105% full that is they were in flood 8 months later they were at 20% capacity 8 years of normal water usage gone in 8 months

if menindee was kept full, water would not have needed to be piped from the murray to broken hill and a small running stream may have been manageable during drought.

As Richard said , Sa used the the water 100% percent allocation last yr they drained Menindee lakes now they are draining Hume & Dartmouth dams 100% this yrs for all they development at the bottom end of the river who has rarely taking all the water
