    I honestly am conflicted on this as having a device manufacturer that had support that was capable enough to do this might be more valuable than having one that would know to schedule it. Of course it’s a rats nest hypersegments needs to be the norm in health IT

    So some idiot somewhere is &$@?ing sshing firmware updates *while its in use* and F you if you don’t like it. The best I could do was build a rats nest of firewalls to segment every product to try to keep them from pivoting. Dear god I’m glad I left that.

    OH, and the companies demand to be able to remote into those devices from reverse tunnels whenever they like for lease monitoring and maintenance because otherwise you don’t get an SLA, and again, someone might die without it, blah blah

    Again, this is the device manufacturers’ path of least resistance. IMHO It’s infosec’s responsibility to push back on the FDA lie and then work to deploy the devices in a way that allows for the least amount of risk ( given constraints as they are)

    And there’s lots of fun stuff that makes it worse- device manufacturers just have to say “It’s up to you to provide a secure network” and they honestly believe that the FDA *forbids* them from having Ethernet in scope for security testing.

    This is a limited/timid view.. It places blame on the clinicians for having reasonable expectations. The real issue in health IT will always be it’s underpaid so the ops teams are on the meeker side so everything is built with least resistance to support.

    Here’s the fun part from being on the other side of that- you can’t disable the ports or use nac because to the doctors, someone might die if they plug something in and it doesn’t work ASAP. So you spend all your time explaining what happens if someone takes out the whole network

    Now that the Mailbox Activity API is out in the open, can explain why the Audit Log misses authentications that are recorded in the Activity "log"? Failing to record authentications is a pretty big deal.
