D.C. residents are still fighting for an equal voice in our democracy, but we know all too well the power of voting. It’s time to make sure that ALL of our voices are heard. ⤵️

One year ago the House passed H.R. 51 – the Washington D.C. Admissions Act – with a record number of cosponsors. Still today, the 700,000 mostly Black and Brown residents of D.C. don’t have full voting rights. We can’t keep waiting. We need #DCStatehood NOW.

Another #TaxDay, another year without representation for the people of DC. D.C. residents are forced to pay federal taxes each year, without any of the same rights as other Americans. It's high time our community has equal representation in our democracy. #DCStatehood

In 1960 Congress approved the 23rd Amendment, which allowed D.C. citizens to vote in presidential elections. In 2020 and again in 2021, the House passed H.R. 51, the Washington, D.C. Admission Act. Now, we are demanding #DCStatehood finally become a reality.

Republicans continue to make threats on how we govern in DC. Threats against our right to vote for our local government. Threats all rooted in racism and subjugation. See my statement here: 51for51.org/news/d-c-state

Time and time again, Republicans play political games with the livelihood of D.C.'s majority-Black and Brown residents. The latest proposal to repeal D.C.'s home rule is no different. Our statement from #DCStatehood advocate @JamalHoltz: 51for51.org/news/d-c-state

D.C. residents couldn’t vote for the President until 1964. D.C. residents couldn’t elect their own major or city council until 1973. Let’s make sure D.C. residents don’t have to wait any longer for full representation and voting power. Let’s make D.C. the 51st state.

TODAY: and announced that D.C. will get a second statue in the Capitol, which will be unveiled on February 28th. 🥳 Every state has two statues in the Capitol — and soon, the future state of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth will too.

In the Constitution: Voting representation for all Americans. Not in the Constitution: The filibuster. We can’t let the filibuster block the voting power promised to D.C. residents in the Constitution.
