The task creates a state of cognitive interference, while we recorded, brain activity from the prefrontal cortex, which is often implicated in control, specifically the anterior cingulate cortex and lateral prefrontal cortex. 4/npic.twitter.com/BVoWu6PApA

As with previous studies, we found few neurons encoded that interference with their firing rates (though more in the cingulate). However, many more neurons encoded the interference with the timing of their action potentials, relative to the population activity. 5/npic.twitter.com/V9jTWvuZRV

There are some more cool findings in the paper, including a more info on how the cingulate and lateral prefrontal cortex interact and differences in temporal coding between the two areas, so check it out! 6/6
