The main reason I believe is that logically you are setting up what exists in other countries. Religiosity vs Free speech. And so, the argument has to come from other grounds - I believe this is shown strongly in the cake baker case in the states. It is freedom of choice

There is zero conflict between freedom of religion and separation of church and state. The latter says the state will not favour any religion. The former says citizens are free to practice their religion.
