I worked at a refuge in the early 80s. We DID acpt trans women. ( a flood during AIDS crisis) We rented another house and cared for over 30. It drained our resources 17 died with loving care from mostly dykes. ( I am shaking now) We closed both houses. No $ left. We had no help.

It is not hard to create a refuge. It is hard to maintain one. I will nEver regret what we did at the human level. But I have since learned men have access to a lot more money and should build refuges to the specific needs of trans folk and anyone else they choose to help.

Yes, were the circumstances reversed, we know that any insistence that our needs should be included, much less centered, would go nowhere. Fact is, we likely wouldn't even ask. Male/female dynamic writ large.

To quote the wise & amazing Antilla Dean (from Tumblr) : "Rise UP, sisters. Fight BACK."
