There are, however, material consequences in changing the meanings of words when language is necessary in legislation which affects those being grossly misrepresented & incorrectly defined.

Even when it's not about stereotypes, the insistence that any male who believes himself to be female must be catered to is erasure. No matter how well said male "passes" as female. Trans people could have taken the path of their own movement, spaces, etc. But they chose not to.
