If a child is told over and over that his preferences are "what girls do," it's an easy leap in child logic to, "then I AM a girl."

Developmentally young kids have more rigid, concrete ideas re: gender than adults (nuanced thinking lacking). "Boys do this, girls do that."

Even if parents don't enforce gendered norms, kids see others around them, how they behave, haircuts. Draw conclusion that they're "wrong"

So kid says to parent, "I'm a girl" co I like Barbies/long hair. Even if gender therapist doesn't immediately "affirm", kid's idea grows.

Even if parent/therapist stay neutral, the IDEA that he MIGHT be a girl/change sex is supported. Despising own body could flow from there.

Instead of encouraging child to love healthy/natural body AND be as gender atypical as they want, adults plant seed of self-rejection.

Would be rare for a young child to despise his/her own body. The IDEA they're wrong gestates self hatred. Why would adults NOURISH that idea?

So much of this flows from T being fused to LGB. Loving one's LGB kid = acceptance. Warped now: Loving one's "trans" kid = body rejection.

Great example: Gender-atypical girl feels "wrong" if she wants the "correct" boy toy...hmm, I must "really" be a boyhttps://twitter.com/eastlancsrly/status/927458593204514816 …

Could all start quite innocently, no one pressuring her or "telling her" she's trans. Young kids have rigid ideas. Why do adults reify them?
